About Joie Lamar, PhD

A connected perspective.

Engineering, animal healthcare, research, and compassionate service.

Curiosity across disciplines.

Joie Lamar, PhD, brings together engineering, hands-on work in animal healthcare, research, and compassionate service. Through the Empathy Based Veterinary Engineering Framework (EBVEF), she connects the lived experiences of animals with the design of healthcare solutions, patents, and practical innovations.

Her research also questions the assumption that human beings are superior to other animals—an outlook that can normalise control, exploitation, and suffering. She examines how systemic cruelty can become embedded in everyday practices, institutions, and systems of care, and asks what must change or be undone to respect animals as beings with needs and experiences of their own.

The purpose of this work

This site connects research, innovation, and advocacy toward a shared goal: designing better for companion animals while challenging the practices and assumptions that harm them. It is a place to examine evidence, share ideas, and encourage changes that place animal wellbeing, dignity, and compassionate responsibility at the centre of human decisions.

Compassion as a daily practice

Buddhist ministry and philosophy inform Joie’s commitment to mindful leadership, interconnectedness, and care. This ethical perspective sits alongside her scientific interests and helps shape the questions she brings to her work.
